What are beeswax wraps?
Love the Earth Beeswax Wraps are an eco-friendly alternative to cling wrap and ziplock bags. They are lovingly handmade in Byron Bay using 100% natural and non-toxic ingredients and allow the contents to ‘breathe’ so food stays fresher, longer. Not only are they useful in the fridge or lunchbox, they also look fantastic covering bowls and platters of food on a table in preparation for the guests to arrive!
What are they made from?
Love the Earth Reusable Beeswax Food Wraps are made from 100% cotton cloth infused with a special blend of local organic Australian beeswax, natural gum rosin, organic coconut oil, and organic Australian jojoba oil.
How do I use the wraps?
Love the Earth Beeswax Wraps are so versatile and easy to use. Simply use the warmth of your hands and fingers to soften the wax and enable you to shape and mould the wrap around your food or bowl. You can also create envelopes or snack pouches for lunchboxes or snacks on the go. See the Use & Care page for more tips.
How do I care for the wraps?
Simply wipe with a clean damp cloth, or if necessary, wash in cool water with a gentle dish soap and air dry on a dish rack. Don’t pick dry food off the wrap as it may remove some wax. Instead, allow the wrap to soak in cool water until the food has softened then wipe off. Never wash in warm/hot water as it will melt the wax.
Once dry, simply fold and store in a drawer or away from direct sun or heat sources such as sunlight, ovens or microwaves as the heat may melt the beeswax and damage the wrap. Or store in the fridge if you live in a very hot climate!
How long will the beeswax wraps last?
With proper use and care, Love the Earth Beeswax Wraps will last up to a year. With day to day use, stains (from vegetables such as beetroot) and creases may appear, but these will not affect your wraps ability to do their job.
How can I extend the life of my beeswax wraps?
To extend the life of your wraps, either place them between two pieces of baking/parchment paper and iron on a low setting OR place the wraps on a lined baking tray and into a 100°C oven for a few minutes – it will redistribute the wax and make them look like new again!
If you've extended the life of your wraps using the re-distribute method (mentioned above) and now they have truly worn out, you can re-wax them and start their life all over again! Cotton lasts for many many years, so before you compost them, try re-wax them using one of our 100g DIY special blend blocks.
What should I do with the wraps when they have worn out?
Once they have truly lived a long and useful life, Love the Earth Beeswax Wraps are 100% biodegradable/compostable, so simply cut the wrap into strips and bury in the garden or in your compost to become one with the earth again. Zero-waste!
What are the different sizes useful for?
I find a combination of different sized wraps essential – you can never have too many! Love the Earth Beeswax Wraps are currently available in 4 sizes:
SMALL 18cm x 18cm (7.1” x 7.1”) – Cover tops of jars, small bowls, cut fruit & veges like avocados, apples & cucumbers. Wrap crackers, or create pockets for nuts and dried fruit, vege sticks and cherry tomatoes for lunch boxes.
MEDIUM 25cm x 25cm (9.8" x 9.8”) – Cover medium sized bowls, or wrap small blocks of cheese & butter and cut veges like sweet potato and broccoli. Create pockets for lunchboxes and fill with popcorn, vege chips or strawberries.
LARGE 32cm x 32cm (12.6” x 12.6") – Cover larger bowls or plates of leftovers, wrap a sandwich or bread roll, a big block of cheese, and larger fruits and vegetables.
EX LARGE 40cm x 40cm (15.7” x 15.7") – Wrap large and awkward vegetables such as celery, cauliflower, silverbeet, half a watermelon, or a cob loaf of bread. Cover platters of food on the table in preparation for the guests to arrive. Make large pockets for loose leaf lettuce and baby spinach.
Is there anything I can't use the wraps for?
Wraps should not be used to wrap raw meat or fish because they can not be washed in hot water. Although you CAN wrap a sandwich with cooked meat or cover a cooked meat dish.
